In 1937, a group of women who had been denied membership in the all-men’s Capital City Motorcycle Club formed the Sacramento Cyclettes. In this photo from the collection of Gaylene Tompkins, club vice president Bernadette Freitas poses in front of the state Capitol on a 1930s Harley. You can see this image and others in the book “Sacramento Motorcycling: A Capital City Tradition,” by Kimberly Reed Edwards (The History Press, $21.99).
