Salt & Straw, the Portland-based company known for its handmade ice cream in outré flavors, will open its first Sacramento scoop shop on Friday, Sept. 2, in the Ice Blocks development.
The store will offer 12 classic flavors like Chocolate Gooey Brownie, plus a rotating monthly menu of nontraditional flavors. The September menu, called the Veggies You Crave series, includes Spinach Cake With Chocolate Tahini Fudge; Charred Corn Curd With Cotija and Tajin; Green Fennel and Maple; Carrot Cake Batter With Pralined Hazelnuts; and a vegan offering: Red Chili Curry & Makrut Lime Crispy Rice.
Salt & Straw is the latest addition to Ice Blocks’ food and beverage lineup, which includes Philz Coffee, Shake Shack, Mendocino Farms and See’s Candies. Founded in 2011 as an ice cream push cart, it now has 28 shops on the West Coast and Florida, including 16 scoop shops in California. 1710 R St.; (916) 216-4002; www.saltandstraw.com.
