TV Weather Person

Mark Finan, KCRA 3; www.kcra.com
As part of his job as KCRA’s chief meteorologist, Mark Finan has a say about the station’s weather-tracking equipment and technology, and he sometimes assists the other meteorologists with forecasting. But for Finan, who’s been with KCRA since 1991, helping viewers navigate their lives around the weather is what really brings him joy. “People here just love doing things outdoors, and helping people work around the weather that sometimes just gets in the way is fulfilling,” he says. And while Finan enjoys a warm, sunny day as much as the next person, it sometimes makes for a slow day at work. “Sunny days are quiet at the office, whereas days where it’s storming and hailing—those days are kinda fun for me. If we could just have storms Monday through Friday and just have sun on the weekend, I’d be in heaven.” Yet it’s during those fierce storms that Finan knows he and his fellow meteorologists are most needed. “Certainly, the severe weather is the most rewarding because that’s when I feel we can help people the most.” Watch Finan forecast weekdays on the 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts along with the 10 p.m. newscast on KCRA sister station KQCA My58 TV.
