An Afternoon to Remember
452 Main St., Newcastle; (916) 663-6358; www.afternoontoremember.com

Teatime is a relaxing tradition that has made its way from Britain to nearby Newcastle, where Sac Mag readers flock to An Afternoon to Remember. The quaint parlor, which can accommodate 50 people, delights patrons with fragrant brews and three-tiered trays of scones, tea sandwiches and desserts, all of which are made in-house. For a full afternoon tea, add quiche and soup. Of special note are the Anniversary Scones, an enticing juxtaposition of white chocolate, raspberries and coconut. “We came up with that one for our second-year anniversary,” says Amy Lawrence, owner, who notes that the shop has been open since 2003. When, regrettably, teatime is over, shop for tea among the more than 100 selections, or sign up for a class in scone making or hosting a tea party. Reservations are requested for teatime seatings.
