Junior League of Sacramento; www.jlsac.org
Local women wishing to give back to the community can get involved with the Junior League, which through its efforts has affected more than 100 charitable organizations and programs. Started in 1942 as an offshoot of the Charity League, whose work focused on young girls, the Junior League has evolved to include health, education, civic and cultural activities, and more to its efforts. Instrumental in the creation of the Sacramento Children’s Receiving Home in the ’40s, Fairytale Town in the ’50s, the Sacramento Regional Arts Council in the ’60s, the Child Abuse Council in the ’70s, the Sacramento Regional Foundation in the ’80s and the Crisis Nursery in the ’90s, the organization continues to promote volunteerism, raise funds and make a tremendous difference in the Sacramento region.
