Have you ever tasted a wine, and said to yourself, “Mmmmm!” Then, you have a bite of something really delicious and thought, “Slso, mmmmm.” Then you take another nibble, and before you swallow, you take another sip of wine . . . and then it’s like fireworks and finding religion all in the same moment, and you audibly declare, “Wow!”
Wine and food pairing is an art not easily mastered. The goal of bringing together thoughtfully curated food and wine is to create a final combination that is so sublime, it leaves you speechless and yields a result that is far more delightful than any achieved by any of the individual components consumed alone. A stunning match can transport us to another place, bestow momentary bliss and bring a genuine smile to our face and gratitude to our heart.
This spring, one local winery is offering one-of-a-kind experiences to send you to this ephemeral space. Element 79 Vineyards, located in Somerset, is partnering with local chef and wine enthusiast Jeneca Kretchman to create a series of monthly four-course dinners that celebrate local and seasonal offerings alongside their line-up of food-friendly wines as the sun sets over the vineyards.
Upon arrival, attendees are greeted with a glass of sparkling wine before they take a seat and the first course is brought out. As a sneak peak into what one might expect, these are the courses and wines that were featured during February’s dinner:
- Little Gem Lettuce, Shaved Radishes, Hand Pulled Mozzarella, Toasted Almonds, Grilled Meyer Lemon paired with Element 79 Vineyards 2019 Viognier
- Ricotta Spinach Ravioli, Pork Sausage, Hedgehog Mushroom, Golden Delicious Apple, Brown Butter paired with Element 79 Vineyards 2019 Rare Earth
- Grilled Angus Strip, Root Vegetable Purée, Braised Local Greens, Pomegranate Beet Demi Glacé, Crispy Spring Onions paired with Element 79 Vineyards 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon
- Blueberry Orange Crumble Cake, Cinnamon Spicy Chantilly, Toffee Bits paired with Element 79 Vineyards 2016 Petite Sirah
The menus are never repeated so diners can expect new creations every month. The number of available tickets per dinner is limited to 16, and it is not uncommon for these events to sell out. To keep the evening intimate, diners are seated only with other people included in their reservation, and all relevant health and safety protocols are followed.
