Wine of the Week: Tierra Del Rio Vineyards Merlot


I was captivated by an uncharacteristically vivacious Merlot wine this week – brimming with personality, the 2009 Tierra Del Rio Merlot, crafted in nearby Clarksburg, sang with bright flavors of black cherries, currants and plums, with an intriguing edge of black pepper and dark chocolate. Medium-bodied, with soft tannins, this delightful red would pair with a number of foods, including grilled red meats, roast duck, pasta dishes, pizza and even hamburgers. But I would also happily drink this charming red wine all by itself – it doesn’t need any embellishments.
