Wine of the Week: Renwood Cabernet Sauvignon


Plymouth’s Renwood Winery crafts a number of tasty and highly regarded wines, and is perhaps best known for its award-winning Zinfandels. But I recently enjoyed its very drinkable 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, which contains 9 percent Petite Sirah, 1 percent Zinfandel and 1 percent Barbera. Surprisingly light and smooth, this food-friendly, low-tannin red has a luscious black currant-vanilla aroma and very ripe plummy, black cherry flavors with just a hint of oakiness. Pair this fun, approachable Cab with pepperoni pizza, burgers, lamb chops or marinated, grilled London broil – it would also be fabulous with a cheese platter.
