Wine of the Week: Hovey 2009 Barbera


I just discovered a lovely, vibrant Barbera that was crafted in the Sierra Foothills by Chuck Hovey of Hovey Wine. The 2009 vintage bursts onto the palate with generous, juicy black cherry flavors, with lingering notes of raspberry and a hint of licorice. The spicy, red fruit aromas and soft tannins make this wine a great partner with Italian cuisine (try it with Italian sausage and spaghetti) and would also pair well with venison, roasted poultry and hearty, homemade beef stew or chili.
