I discovered a fun, wonderfully easy-drinking Côtes du Rhône style blend the other night at Selland’s Market-Café (while picking up a naughty-but-delicious container of macaroni and cheese). Red Shed Syrah-Grenache, crafted in Sonoma County, is exuberantly fruity, with lots of strawberry-cranberry-raspberry flavors and a soft, almost imperceptible licorice-y finish. This light, approachable wine is the perfect quaff with roast chicken, pasta, barbecue and roasted or grilled lamb – and at a mere $14.99 a bottle, it’s easy on the pocketbook.
