Matt Woolston, owner of Supper Club on Del Paso Boulevard, plans to open a second restaurant called Matteo’s, a pizzeria/beer and wine bar, in Carmichael’s Five Points shopping center.
Woolston and his wife, Yvette, have taken over the old Steve’s Pizza space and plan to open the casual Matteo’s in July, serving an affordable menu of pizzas, pastas, salads and grilled meats. Charlie Keller, Woolston’s longtime Supper Club second-in-command, will be chef de cuisine; the Woolstons will work the front of the house as hosts.
Woolston has successfully run Supper Club as a high-end, special-occasion, fixed-menu, fixed-price restaurant with a global cuisine focus. (Don’t fret, Woolston fans; Supper Club is not closing.)
Woolston is the latest local restaurateur to turn to pizza making. Rick Mahan, owner of The Waterboy, is opening his own pizzeria, OneSpeed, in East Sacramento later this spring. It will join Hot Italian in midtown and Masullo in Land Park. Both serve Neapolitan-style thin-crust pizzas.
