Yesterday I got a sneak preview of the food at Smashburger, which opened today in Citrus Heights. With me was my 15-year-old daughter, a major burger fan who keeps a running tally of the best burgers in town. We tried the BBQ, Bacon & Cheese burger, the All American Smashburger, the Sweet Potato Smashfries and the Veggie Frites (flash-fried asparagus spears, carrot sticks and green beans). It was all good, but my daughter was blown away by the barbecue burger, topped with applewood smoked bacon and deep-fried onion strings. It’s now No. 1 on her list, she says. This is the first of five Smashburgers planned for the Sacramento region; others will open in Folsom and Roseville later this year. It’s located at 5500 Sunrise Blvd.
