Last week, a media friend of mine who holds a monthly writers’ get-together at Scandal bar in The Citizen Hotel had to do some last-minute scrambling when she learned that the bar has closed.
Apparently, the hotel management decided to pull the plug on the chic little upstairs lounge about two weeks ago. It’s now being used for private events such as political fundraisers and a complimentary wine hour for hotel guests. (The downstairs bar in Grange restaurant is still going strong.)
Luckily for my friend, the hotel agreed to open Scandal for her group, called Writers Who Wine, and run a cocktail service up to the room. “So don’t panic if it looks empty or closed,” she told the group’s members in an e-mail. “It is simply very exclusive.”
