One of the most entertaining family events of the year will take place on October 2nd and 3rd in the beautiful Capay Valley. The Hoes Down Harvest Festival, now in its 23rd year, is dedicated to “celebrating sustainable agriculture, organic farming, food, and old-fashioned family fun.” This is a wonderful opportunity for you and the kids to explore rural life on an organic farm, and there are an array of activities for every member of the family. Kids have their own area, brimming with arts and crafts tables, a dunking tank, a huge hay structure to climb and lots of cute animals to pet – and this year there’s even an open air, one-ring circus (see www.circusbella.com). Adults will appreciate the many hands-on workshops offered – here’s your chance to learn how to milk cows, plant fruit trees and establish a backyard chicken coop. All of the proceeds from the festival go to non-profit organizations that support sustainable agriculture and rural living.
