If you happen to spy me on the road on a weekend morning, chances are I am headed off to find brunch (my favorite meal of the week). And while I love trying out new restaurants, sometimes I just want a solid, dependable breakfast to fuel me up for the day. That’s when I visit Cafe Bernardo, the Old Faithful in my list of tried-and-true brunch restaurants (which include Ernesto’s Mexican Food; Roxy Restaurant and Bar; and Katrina’s in Auburn). Bernardo dishes I order often include the scrambled eggs and chicken-apple sausage (with lots of melted smoked mozzarella cheese); the fantastic huevos rancheros, swimming in a vibrant pool of roasted tomato salsa; and the crusty, satisfying malted Belgian Waffle, dolloped with a mound of toasted pecan butter.
There are three Cafe Bernardo locations:
2726 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento; (916) 443-1180
1431 R Street, Sacramento; (916) 930-9191
234 D Street., Davis; (530) 750-5101
