Philipp's Bakery Gets a New Owner


Heard through the grapevine: Philipp’s Bakery in East Sac, which has sat empty for more than three years, has been sold to local developers Ken Fahn and Mark Cordano. Rumors have been swirling for weeks about the property’s fate. Word was that Jack’s Urban Eats was taking over the spot. Not so, says Jack’s owner Greg Virga. I also heard that Adam Pechal, owner of Tuli Bistro, looked at the space, and that baker Ettore Ravazzolo was approached about opening a bakery there. (He reportedly said no.) I’ve been unable to find out the new owners’ plans for the Folsom Boulevard property, but a well-connected East Sac source told me it’s sure to be something good. The pair have an excellent track record: They developed the old Firestone Building downtown (home of Mix, deVere’s Irish Pub and California Pizza Kitchen), as well as Peet’s coffeehouse on J and 38th.
