If you happen to be at either of the two P.F. Chang’s locations in the Sacramento region today at 5:18 p.m., you’ll get a free taste of the restaurant’s new house wine, Vineyard 518. Both the downtown and Roseville Chang’s will be serving complimentary 2-ounce pours of the house Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah blend, which were developed in conjunction with Wattle Creek Winery in Mendocino. “The idea was to come up with wines that would go with our food and that reflect what our guests are currently drinking,” explained Mary Melton, the company’s beverage director. The Sauvignon Blanc has peach, orange and lemon flavors with crisp grassy notes and a touch of acidity, according to Melton, while the Syrah blend has rich dark fruit with hints of black pepper and spice. Both wines will cost $7.50 a glass. The wines come in environmentally friendly 10-liter boxes that are completely recyclable and that have a smaller carbon footprint than wines packaged in bottles. “We end up with zero waste,” said Melton.
