I just received an interesting press kit from a company called TastingRoom.com. When I opened the box, I found six tiny bottles of red wine from Gundlach Bundschu, a Sonoma winery. It’s a kit that aims to replicate the winery tasting room experience by allowing you to try taste-sized samples of wine in your own home. What a cool idea. My sampler included 50ml bottles of Gundlach Bundschu’s Merlot, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Mountain Cuvée. The website, launched last week, offers similar tasting kits for Trefethen, DeLoach, Patz & Hall, Talley and Grgich Hills. Other wineries will be added in the coming months. The kits start at $10 for a four-pack sampler and go up to $25 for a six-pack. If you like what you taste, you can buy bottles of the wine through the site. What a boon for people who like wine but don’t like to battle the crowds in the Napa and Sonoma tasting rooms.
