New Restaurant For Former Ella Chef

Chef David English is planning to open a Mediterranean bistro in the Capitol Avenue space that once housed Dragonfly restaurant. English, who ran the kitchen at Ella for almost two years, recently signed a lease on the space and hopes to open in August. He’ll serve affordably priced French- and Italian-inspired bistro food with a local and seasonal emphasis. “It’s what people want to eat right now,” he says. Last summer, English left Ella, which he helped open back in 2007, and spent four months traveling through southern Italy before returning to Sacramento to open his own place. He’s planning to call it The Press, a reference to the olive press used to make olive oil.
