We had a cozy dinner last night at Nagato Sukiyaki, a small, friendly family-run Japanese restaurant tucked in a strip mall off Fulton Boulevard. While plowing through our bowl of edamame, we discovered that Nagato is celebrating its 40th year of business in Sacramento. According to our sushi chef (son of the original owners – Mom still cheerfully works the front of the house), sushi “wasn’t for everybody” back in 1970, but all that’s changed. These days, the restaurant enjoys a loyal following of customers, who come in regularly for the restaurant’s nurturing noodle soups, sukiyaki, and sushi (don’t miss the Mama San roll).
