Mother’s Day Countdown: 31 Days

1120

You’ve exactly one month to figure out where you’re taking Mom for brunch this Mother’s Day. For the next four weeks, I’ll be blogging with ideas on how to celebrate the big day. (Think of me as your own personal mom wrangler.) Here’s today’s tip:

What: A Very Special Mother’s Day Brunch With Suzanne Ashworth
Where: The Good Life Garden, Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science, Davis
When: 11 a.m. Sunday, May 10
Cost: $65 per person

Suzanne Ashworth, the owner of Del Rio Botanical farm in West Sacramento, will talk about seed saving (one of her passions) before a brunch featuring some of her produce. Ashworth’s farm supplies some of the top restaurants in the Sacramento region, including The Waterboy and Mulvaney’s Building and Loan. She is, frankly, a kick—very outspoken on the subject of food and interesting as all get-out. Mom’ll love it (and you).

Here’s the menu:

Sparkling wine
Chocolate mint herb iced tea
Anise hyssop herb iced tea
*
Del Rio Botanical mixed greens and flower petal salad
Seasonal vegetable and fresh tarragon quiche with ham and Gruyère cheese (vegetarian option available)
Fresh seasonal fruit
Lemon poppyseed bread
Spring carrot bread
*
Lemon verbena-fresh strawberry ice cream
Double chocolate biscotti
