Magpie Caterers Market & Cafe opens tomorrow (Wednesday, April 1) at the 14&R development downtown. The counter-service cafe will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily (except Sundays), serving local, seasonal, sustainable and largely organic prepared foods, plus local beers and wines. In addition to pastries, sandwiches and salads designed to be eaten on the premises, Magpie will offer foods you can take home for dinner, such as tri tip with green sauce and Petaluma chicken with sweet wine and grapes (one of the most popular dishes from the operation’s catering side).
Magpie is the latest restaurant to open in what promises to be Sacramento’s next hot urban neighborhood: 14th and R streets. It’s in a cool old brick warehouse next door to Randy Paragary’s R15 complex. Other street-level restaurant tenants include The Shady Lady Saloon, a speakeasy-style restaurant opening in a few weeks; Burgers & Brew, a Sacramento outpost of the Davis B&B, due to open in a week or so; and Top This Yogurt, a frozen yogurt shop, set to open who-knows-when. Upstairs is the new loft development, 1409 R Street, which is also just completed; units are now being sold.
During opening week, Magpie will keep a modified schedule; it will be open for regular hours starting next Monday (April 6). Call (916) 452-7594 for information.
