Pru Mendez, owner of Tucos Wine Market and Cafe in Davis, is expanding his chic little wine bar. Within the next two weeks, he’ll start construction to open up a wall into a small space that adjoins the L-shaped restaurant. The build-out will allow Mendez to add about 15 seats to a place that now seats only 30. “It’s a big expansion for us,” says Mendez, who leased the neighboring space a long time ago but didn’t have the money for an expansion. He’s decided now’s the time to pull the trigger. “The economy’s been tough, but we think the worst is over,” Mendez says. Work should be completed by the end of March.
