A slice of pedestrian pepperoni pizza can do wonders for the soul (and tummy), but when I’m looking for some delightfully innovative pizza I head to midtown’s hip, popular Hot Italian.
I always enjoy contemplating Hot Italian’s interesting ingredient combinations, which sometimes sound a bit odd, but usually taste marvelous. Case in point is the delectable, could-be-dessert Murino (#23), topped with soft seasonal pears, local Del Rio Farms honey, mozzarella cheese and Gorgonzola dolce cheese – whose richness and sharp, briny tang is a great foil for the fruit and honey’s sweetness. Another fave is the decadent, delicious Magnini (#8), strewn with smoked salmon, fresh dill, mozzarella and creamy mascarpone cheese. Note: save room for the restaurant’s enticing selection of gelato.
