I had a knockout meal Saturday night at Shahrzad Fine Persian Cuisine in Rancho Cordova. Tucked back off Sunrise Boulevard, this elegant, family-owned establishment serves up some of the tastiest kabobs I’ve sampled in the region. Highlights of the meal included a sweet-tart Persian braised chicken stew called fessenjoon, prepared with walnut puree and pomegranate sauce; and the warm, tender pita bread, which we stuffed with fresh bunches of cilantro, mint and tangy feta cheese. Take some adventurous friends and check out this friendly restaurant – and don’t miss the kitchen’s wonderfully flavorful koobedeh, ground chicken kabobs; or the adana, skewers of ground beef enlivened with mild green chili peppers and black pepper.
