If you like to cook (and watch others cook), you’ll be interested to know that the 2009 California State Fair is featuring a fun attraction called “California’s Kitchen,” located in the California Foodstyle Building. The attraction features amateur baking and canning competitions for both kids and adults; chef challenges and “special nutritional food demonstrations.” All have an agricultural and nutritional focus, and promise to “relate to the fast pace lifestyle of Californians.” For more information about California’s Kitchen, visit www.bigfun.org/Competitions/competition_description.asp.
If you can’t attend, you can still enjoy the food featured at these fun competitions – recipes from the participants are posted on the State Fair’s website at www.bigfun.org/Competitions/recipes.asp. Featured dishes include Mid-East meatballs; seared lamb with wild rice pudding; and baked apples with almond butter and crème anglaise.
The 2009 California State Fair runs from August 21st to September 7th at Cal Expo. For more information, visit www.bigfun.org.
