First Bite: Cafe Capricho

East Sacramento has a friendly and colorful new family-owned restaurant on Folsom Boulevard, just a hop, skip and a jump from 33rd Street Bistro. Teeny Café Capricho offers a flavorful lineup of homestyle Mexican dishes, which include some not-so-typical selections – we savored the stuffed poblano peppers, a house specialty, filled with cheese, currants and pine nuts, doused with a roasted poblano sauce and served up with quinoa and whole black beans; and the enchiladas suizas (chicken enchiladas napped in a lively, just-spicy-enough tomatillo sauce) was another winner. I’ll be back soon for the kitchen’s red potato, Swiss chard and black bean burrito (the restaurant caters happily to vegetarians) and the grilled fish tacos.
