Despite the shaky economy, new restaurants keep popping up in Sacramento. One of the newest is Bombay Bar and Grill, located on 21st Street in midtown. I checked it out today and was blown away by the kitchen’s delicious lamb saagwala (chunks of lamb cooked with spinach, garlic and roasted cumin powder); super-creamy chicken tikka masala; and a toothsome vegetarian cauliflower and potato dish embellished with fresh tomatoes and cilantro. The restaurant walls are painted deep eggplant purple and dark red, the comfy dining room chairs are upholstered with ornate fabric, and the front of the establishment features an exotic turquoise bar above which dangle delightful light fixtures resembling illuminated jellyfish. Needless to say, I’ll be back soon – next time I plan to plow my way through the kitchen’s roasted clay pot salmon and a dish called lamb jalifrazie, just because I love the way it sounds.
