Ella Plans Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration

As a Francophile, j’adore French holidays and special occasions, such as Bastille Day (France’s version of Independence Day) and Beaujolais Nouveau Day, when the new Beaujolais wine is released with great fanfare. In France on that day (always the third Thursday in November), restaurants, bars and wine shops go crazy, holding parties and special events to celebrate the wine’s arrival. The stuff in the bottle is pretty unremarkable (it’s so young), but the celebrations are loads of fun. Here in Sacramento, Ella restaurant will celebrate the arrival of Beaujolais Nouveau next Thursday with a special dinner deal. For $75, you’ll get a three-course dinner for two, served family style, and a bottle of Henry Fessy Morgon 2007, a Cru Beaujolais. The rustic French menu will include Bibb lettuce salad with chèvre toast, pan-roasted quail with sourdough stuffing, and tarte tatin with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel sauce. Très délicieux!
