Cheeseburger . . . Soup? Yep, at Tomat's in Winters

2011

I relished an unusual and very comforting dish recently at Tomat’s California Cuisine in Winters. The kitchen’s popular (and no doubt thigh-thickening) cheeseburger soup is a terrific choice on a cold, blustery day. A thick, creamy-cheesy soup base is punctuated with little chunks of hamburger, diced tomato and even bits of lettuce. It sounds odd, but the combination works well (and tastes even better when paired with a draft ale). Other enticing menu items we enjoyed at this friendly, family-owned restaurant included a beautifully grilled salmon and a bountiful sausage-chicken-vegetable sauté.
