The region’s crisp weather and looming holidays herald the beginning of our glorious citrus season, abundant with blood oranges, mandarins, clementines, kumquats and Meyer lemons. To kick start the season, I’m visiting the annual Mandarin Festival, which will be held this year on November 18th, 19th and 20th.
Now in its 18th year, this wonderful event features a rollicking lineup of entertainment, from a Mandarin recipe contest and professional chef demonstrations to live music, clowns, a special kids’ area and lots of great food. There’s even a Miss Mandarin pageant.
More than 200 vendors will be on hand to sell Mandarin-scented lotions, soaps and candles, in addition to artist-crafted jewelry, home accessories, and holiday items.
Proceeds benefit the scholarship fund of the Newcastle Area Business Association and the Newcastle Volunteer Fire Department.
