Bakeoff at the County Fair

810

We took the kids to the Sacramento County Fair on Monday, and I made a beeline for the preserve and baked good area. It always warms the cockles of my heart to know that, in this age of hyper-technology, there’s still some old-fashioned souls whipping up fresh strawberry jam and elaborate layer cakes to be entered in county fair competitions. And while I saw a number of interesting entries, there was one in particular that made me smile. Having come directly from the (live) sheep barn, I was surprised to find a (ribboned!) cake in the form of a sheep. Gotta love that creativity.
