Last night I was blown away by a meal I had at Ella Dining Room and Bar. I stopped by to check out the fall menu crafted by new executive chef, Kelly McCown, and left dazzled by the items I had sampled. Across the board, the dishes’ flavors were bold, the ingredient combinations innovative, and the quality sky-high. Two highlights of the evening were a lusty, assertive grilled Monterey Bay calamari and lentil salad, punctuated with chunks of green olive, capers, and bitter-pleasing bites of radicchio; and a fantastic, crusty-topped Spanish salted cod brandade, baked up in its own little porcelain dish and served with light-as-air housemade crackers.
