This must be my week for great food. I visited Ambience restaurant in Carmichael last night and was deeply impressed with chef/owner Morgan Song’s complex, thoughtful and gorgeously presented food. If you visited the restaurant in its former incarnation, Maritime Seafood & Grill, you’ll be familiar with Song’s beautifully crafted cuisine, but the concept (and restaurant name) have changed, and Song is now offering his very upscale fare as a fixed-price meal (5 courses!) for only $45 a person – a true bargain for the quality and quantity of food that diners will enjoy. Located on Fair Oaks Boulevard amidst 99-cent stores and vacant storefronts, the restaurant doesn’t have the toniest address, but it’s certainly offering some of the classiest food in the region. My favorite dish of the evening (and it’s hard to choose) was the celestial poached day boat scallops perched atop crescent-shaped cambozola-spinach agnolotti, napped in a velvety, cream-based saffron-dill sauce. Mmmmmmmm.
