Spotlight: Keith Bohm

2970

One thing Keith Bohm wants you to know: His concert will not be atonal. “It’s contemporary, it’s virtuosic, but it’s very tonal,” says Bohm, who will perform a mix of international works in his faculty recital this month. In his ninth year as a music prof at Sacramento State, Bohm, 36, has performed many a recital. But no two are alike. “I like to mix it up,” he says. “It’s just whatever I’m in the mood to do.” This year’s mood: global, with works by Swedish, French and Russian composers, all played on alto sax. “Most of the great music is written for alto,” says Bohm, who clearly likes a challenge: He says he enjoys playing “extremely difficult music.” Rising to the occasion alongside Bohm will be John Cozza on piano. Catch the recital on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. at Capistrano Hall, Room 151, at Sacramento State, 6000 J St. in Sacramento. Tickets are $8 general, $5 for students and seniors.
