On the theory that everyone’s a critic, we asked you, our readers, to try your hand at writing a restaurant review. Reader Bob Garcia responded with this review of Lake Forest Cafe in Folsom.
Several times, my wife and I passed by the homey-looking Lake Forest Cafe and told each other we had to try it without ever following through. Who could blame us? Countless visits to other restaurants pleasing to our eyes were unfortunately not so to our taste.
We eventually made our way there on a sunny Saturday morning to find a handful of people waiting on the front porch. Although a large party was celebrating a birthday breakfast inside, our wait was insignificant; our young greeter was more concerned about our wait than we were (nice to see).
We felt quite comfortable seated in the larger dining area. Our knowledgeable server took our order from an extensive breakfast selection quickly and made nonpushy (and helpful) suggestions. Coffee and water were offered and refilled several times without request. My wife said the orange juice&emdash;real and freshly squeezed&emdash;was the best she’s ever tasted.
Our breakfasts came to the table in unexpectedly short order. My wife ordered Mike’s Potatoes, an excellent blend of spuds, avocado chunks, two cheeses and onions topped with a dollop of sour cream, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I heard several chorizo-laden omelettes calling me and settled on one containing chorizo and cheese.
The dishwasher probably did a double take when he saw our cleaned plates. He may as well just wipe them down quickly, as we will return to Lake Forest Cafe very soon.
