Benefiting Organizations: Eskaton’s TLC&emdash;Tender Loving Care&emdash;program for seniors and Make-A-Wish Foundation of Sacramento and Northeastern California
1-second review: As a patron of other McCormick & Schmick’s, Steve Swan opined: Sacramento’s version has potential.
The best: Take time to read every descriptive word on the extensive menu, which is printed fresh each day. Select from the raw bar or order an entre salad, sandwich, seafood specialty or maybe the blue-plate special. (It was baked tuna pasta with mushrooms, peas and three-cheese bchamel the day we ate there.) The Divas liked the seasonal heirloom tomatoes, tilapia with griddled cashews and Jamaican rum butter, salmon saut with mushrooms, and a non-seafood item: Caribbean grilled pork salad with plantain chips, mango and avocado. We also enjoyed the fried oysters, Canadian black mussels and jambalaya. Ten desserts were available, 10 were ordered. Key lime pie, carrot cake and the chocolate bag with ice cream were tops.
Wine: Diva Bernice Hagen admired the extensive wine list. We ordered a couple of Pinot Noirs (Cambria 2005 Julia’s Vineyard and Saintsbury 2005 Carneros) and a Sauvignon Blanc (Nautilus Estate 2005).
Ambiance: Masculine and Hemingway-esque, according to Celeste Tzikas.
Chatter: By acclamation, Steve Swan won the sartorial award of the day for his outfit: black pinstripe jacket, pink shirt and blue jeans. (Every luncher commented on his attire.) At the other end of the table, Kit Dillon Givas practically did the hootchy-kootchy describing how she put on a pair of Spanx. Heather Swan will remember that demonstration the next time she gets into her Spanx.
Quote of the day: Overheard by Steve Swan, repartee from Diva Peg Tomlinson-Poswall to Kit Dillon Givas: Did that get on your white pants? More importantly, did that get on mine?
