Local Chefs Team Up on January 21st to Assist a Friend in Need


Sacramento’s restaurant community is coming together on Friday, January 21st to help out one of their own.

Local chefs, including Randall Selland (The Kitchen, Ella Dining Room & Bar), Adam Pechal (Tuli Bistro), Billy Ngo (Kru and Red Lotus), Rick Mahan (Waterboy and OneSpeed), and Patrick Mulvaney (Mulvaney’s B&L) are participating in “POPFEST 2011,” an event dedicated to raising funds to help cover medical costs and loss of wages incurred by wine sales rep Poppy Watson. Watson, who has worked in the Sacramento restaurant community for many years, was viciously attacked by a pit bull in November 2010. She was bitten in the face and suffered major facial trauma. Watson has already undergone two major reconstructive surgeries at UC Davis Medical Center, and doctors predict she will need to undergo a number of additional procedures over the next year.

The event, which will feature an array of appetizers, cocktails and local wines, will be MC’d  by Nick Toma of Good Day Sacramento, who will also serve as auctioneer for the evening. Auction items range from wine cellar selections and large format bottles to private tours and wine tastings with overnight accommodations donated by wineries, and exclusive dining opportunities with chefs.
