Good Times Roll

poor boys

There’s nothing stingy about a po’ boy, the Depression-era sandwich that originated in New Orleans during the 1929 streetcar strike and was served free to out-of-work conductors. We’ve got our own problems now, but POOR BOYS in West Sacramento has stepped into the breach with its version of the original. A French roll is stuffed with fried seafood, chicken or meat, along with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and spicy remoulade. It’s enough to make you forget your cares . . . for a while, anyway.
