On Saturday May 22, the Urban Dare series of adventure races is coming to Sacramento! What’s the Urban Dare? It’s described as a half-day Amazing Race meets National Treasure, where participants use a combination of intelligence and strength to complete their assignments.
Urban Dare requires two-person teams, which navigate through metro landscapes to find and solve clues, document each success (so each team must bring a digital camera or cell phone with camera) and beat the clock while covering approximately five miles on foot or public transportation.
Out of the starting block, teams will pick up clue sheets. For checkpoints that mention a dare, teams must accomplish tasks and get passports stamped before moving on. On checkpoints that mention a photo, teams must get a photo showing they were there. Dares range from throwing a bull’s-eye, scaling a climbing wall, completing a puzzle, etc. Winners finish in about two hours and most will finish in under four hours.
Urban Dare Sacramento will start and finish at MVP Sports Grill (1629 Capitol Ave.) Check-in begins at 11 a.m. and continues until race time, which is noon. Proceeds go to fight breast cancer. The winning team will compete for $5,000 in the next Super Dare.
