Skiing on July 4

Yup, you read that headline right. You can go skiing this July 4—and I don’t mean water skiing, I mean snow skiing. Squaw Valley USA will be operating five lifts— Funitel, Gold Coast, Shirley Lake, Links and the Cable Car—from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 2 through Independence Day. (The press release I got says “weather permitting,” which I assume means they will close if there is some bad storm, which ordinarily we’d laugh at this time of year. But with the way the weather’s been this year, we’re not laughing.) Tickets—per day—are $49 for adults and $12 for children 12 and younger. (Active duty military personnel and 2011–2012 season passholders ski free.) All ticketholders receive a commemorative T-shirt.
For those seeking more traditional fun, the resort will also be hosting pool parties and barbecues. And don’t miss the July 3 fireworks spectacular and concert featuring Big Head Todd and the Monsters. For more information, click here.
