Race for the Rock

Can’t afford that engagement ring in these difficult economic times? Race for it. Yes, race for it during Race for the Rock, taking place Saturday. Guided by text message clues, participants “pedal, scoot and wheel” their way around downtown Sacramento searching for prizes. First-place prize: A white gold 18K diamond solitaire ring valued at $20,000. (Though the third place prize ain’t too shabby, either: An 18K white gold necklace valued at $3,800.) Imagine the stories you can tell your grandkids if you win the big rock! Even if you don’t, though, you’ll have a good time and your $40 entry fee supports the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. Check-in is at 8 a.m. at the West Steps of the State Capitol; the race begins at 10 a.m. For more information, log onto racefortherock.com.
