Spring is fast approaching, and the Capay Valley is gearing up to host its annual Almond Festival – a lively, family-friendly event that’s been celebrated by the communities of Guinda, Rumsey, Brooks, Capay, and Esparto since 1915. This year’s Almond Festival occurs on Sunday, March 13th and will feature lots of good food (participating local restaurants include the historic Capay Junction Saloon and Road Trip Bar & Grill in Capay); rollicking live music (five live bands are scheduled to play along the 29-mile route from Esparto to Rumsey); agricultural fun (make sure to visit the farmers’ market) – and for kids, a climbable hay pyramid, petting zoo and an appearance by Dilly Dally the Clown.
Our region’s home bakers will also have the opportunity to show off their skills – the Festival is hosting an almond cookie and candy contest. Bakers need to register with the Esparto Regional Chamber of Commerce by March 9th . The entry fee is $10.
