Vic’s to Gunther’s Ice Cream Walk

If you like to stay fit but also love cold, creamy treats, join your two interests on Aug. 6 and 7 during the Sacramento Walking Sticks’ annual Vic’s to Gunther’s Ice Cream Walk.

The walking club boasts more than 500 members—the largest “volkssport” club in the country—but there’s no need to be a member to participate. Both walks (Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. or Aug. 7 at 9 a.m.) will offer loops of 5K (3.1 miles) or 10K (6.2 miles) that are shady enough for sun-sensitive folks and wide enough for dogs, strollers, wheelchairs, scooters and the like—all are welcome. The walks will, of course, include visits to both iconic ice cream parlors, and the route that will be detailed on a map and in written directions handed out at the outset, so feel free to go your own pace. (Especially after gorging on ice cream.)

For more information, contact the current president of the Sacramento Walking Sticks, Barbara Nuss, at 283-4650 or email her at nussb@surewest.net. The walks begin at Vic’s Ice Cream at 3199 Riverside Blvd. and end at Gunther’s Ice Cream at 2801 Franklin Blvd.
