It’s a bad pun, but entirely true: The first time I saw Tuba Christmas, I was blown away. With some 150 tuba and euphonium players on the same stage, honking out “Jingle Bells,” “Winter Wonderland” and other holiday classics, the result is a big, boisterous, delightfully goofy sound. Scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. at the McClatchy High Auditorium, this year marks the 34th anniversary of Tuba Christmas in Sacramento, but it’s been running 40 years strong around the world. It’s a lot of fun, and it won’t take a bite out of your holiday budget: The show is free.
