Thomas Dolby’s ‘The Invisible Lighthouse’

2620

When his zany, synthesizer-heavy “She Blinded Me with Science” hit the charts in 1982, Thomas Dolby seemed like just another one-hit wonder capitalizing on the New Wave craze. But the British musician/producer has continued to push the creative envelope ever since, mining the intersection between music and technology as a soundtrack composer for films and video games, digital ringtone master (he’s created hundreds) and independent filmmaker. On Saturday, Nov. 23, Dolby will bring his award-winning film, The Invisible Lighthouse, to the Crest. Described as a “trans-media performance piece,” Dolby will provide live narration and a musical score with songs from different stages of his career while the film is projected on the big screen. Helping out with Foley sound effects and footsteps in real time will be Dolby’s longtime collaborator Blake Leyh. VIP tickets are already sold out for this unusual theatrical event, so advance purchase is recommended.
