Writer Joan Didion channeled the grief over the death of her husband, writer John Gregory Dunne, and the onset of illness that took the life of their daughter, Quintana Dunne Michael, into a book titled The Year of Magical Thinking.
Now through Nov. 25, you can catch a stage adaptation of the Sacramento-born novelist’s distinguished memoir at California Stage. (The book won a National Book Award and a Pulitzer Prize.) The one-woman play stars Elly Award winner and multiple Drama Desk Award nominee Janis Stevens.
The show takes place in the Dennis Wilkerson Theater at the R25 Arts Complex at 1721 25th St. in Sacramento. Show times are Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday–Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 with discounts offered to military, seniors, students, SARTA members and groups of six more.
