‘The Vanishing Point’

How do you know what’s new and happening in the world of live theater? Just ask Ray Tatar, artistic director of California Stage and an avid advocate for new plays. Tatar’s company is one of six theaters in the United States that is participating in the first-ever New Play Festival of the American Association of Community Theaters. As such, California Stage has been chosen to present “The Vanishing Point” by Nedra Pezold Roberts—one of the festival’s winning entries—starting March 29 and playing every weekend in April at the R25 Arts Complex in midtown.

Playwright Roberts’ arresting new play was selected out of 250 entries to enjoy a world premiere in Sacramento. The play explores the destruction of the Bayous and the diaspora of the American Cajun culture in a voice that is all Roberts’ own. It won’t be hard to see why this piece caught Tatar’s attention.

“The Vanishing Point” will be performed Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. at the R25 Arts Complex (1721 25th St.). For tickets and more information, call (916) 451-5822 or visit calstage.org.
