The Sacramento Horror Film Festival

Now in its seventh year, the Sacramento Horror Film Festival has developed quite the reputation. With each year getting bigger and creepier, our local horror buffs keep bringing in bigger acts while keeping loyal fans. The festival calls for submissions from filmmakers around the world, resulting in a deluge of genuinely spooky cinematic fair. Most of the submissions are shorts, so while the festival does offer a few feature-length movies, most of the roster is filled with works under the 30 minute mark. In fact, the Sac Horror Film Fest is perfect for those with limited attention spans; over the course of the three-day event, 40 of the 46 films are short. For audience members looking for a more involved affair, they can stop by on Saturday night for a screening of cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show or on Sunday for the family-friendly Paranorman. The festival isn’t limited to just film, either, with screenings peppered with costume contests, games, comedy, live music and performance art. For more information, go here.
