The Philodendron Show

1952

Strewn across the jungle floor or tucked away in the corner of grandmother’s living room, the billowing plant is recognizable for its sometimes monstrous size and enveloping leaves. The philodendron acts as muse for artist Dixie Laws’ latest show as she plays with its sinister scale in her 2-D work. View the work at Axis Gallery Friday through Sunday. May 6–May 29, noon to 5 p.m. Axis Gallery, 625 S St.; (916) 443-9900; axisgallery.org
